Geena the Goose: A Heartwarming Children’s Storybook About Self-Acceptance
A long time ago, in 2009, there was a great hush around the business world. Companies and individuals alike were tightly squeezed by what became known as the Global Financial Crisis (GFC)—a downturn that reshaped industries and livelihoods. Uncertainty loomed large, and as businesses braced for impact, work at DesignStreet slowed dramatically—like a waterfall running dry. With spare capacity, Graham Hardy, our Managing Director, saw an opportunity to channel this unexpected downtime into something meaningful. Instead of waiting for the tide to turn, he embarked on a passion project: a beautifully illustrated children’s storybook called Geena the Goose.
The Story Behind Geena the Goose
At the heart of this children’s storybook is a timeless lesson wrapped in an enchanting tale. Geena, a magpie goose from Northern Australia, loves her family—but she is endlessly dissatisfied with her own appearance. She gazes longingly at graceful swans, elegant flamingos, and other striking birds, wishing she could take on their beauty instead of her own.
But when her wishes start to come true, the results are not quite what she expected.
With its whimsical storytelling and beautifully detailed watercolour illustrations by senior designer Maria Grueva, Geena the Goose delivers a heartfelt message: be careful what you wish for. This children’s storybook resonates with young readers, particularly children aged 8 to 12, teaching them the value of self-acceptance in a fun and relatable way.
A Special Children’s Storybook Born From Creativity
What started as a creative side project during uncertain times became something truly special—a reminder that even in challenging moments, creativity can flourish. Geena the Goose is more than just a children’s storybook; it’s a labor of love, brought to life by passion and artistic dedication.
If you’re searching for a beautifully illustrated children’s book with a charming story and an important life lesson, look no further!
